RoydadNaft – <\/a><\/span>\u00a0The National Petrochemical Co. (NPC) and the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at encouraging petrochemical companies to invest in natural gas efficiency and conservation projects.<\/p>\n

According to NPC, Hassan Abbasszadeh, CEO of the NPC, said Saturday that the new agreement builds on the two companies\u2019 successful cooperation in the 1403 \u201c10 Percent Energy Consumption Reduction Campaign.\u201d He said the initiative delivered valuable social, environmental and economic benefits.<\/p>\n

Abbasszadeh said the updated memorandum introduces constructive changes that will support the expansion of energy-efficiency projects across multiple sectors and strengthen cultural, social and environmental programs. He emphasized the need to curb unconventional consumption and reduce energy waste across all industries.<\/p>\n

Given the petrochemical sector\u2019s central role in Iran\u2019s economic development and foreign-currency revenues, he said it is essential to manage non-productive energy consumption to enable greater allocation of resources to the industry and prevent future restrictions.<\/p>\n

He added that under the new agreement, petrochemical companies plan to invest in efficiency projects in various segments, operating within regulations and consumption standards. These investments, he said, will reduce energy-intensity levels, safeguard intergenerational assets and allow companies to benefit from the gas saved through efficiency measures.<\/p>\n

Supporting Stable Industrial Output<\/strong><\/p>\n

Saeid Tavakoli, CEO of the NIGC, praised the joint approach of the two organizations and described the 10 percent gas-consumption reduction campaign as a successful experience that should be expanded. He said cooperation between NIGC and NPC \u2014 including the use of social capacities, NGOs and participation from major industries \u2014 has created an effective and innovative model under the country\u2019s energy-operator regulations for developing consumption-management programs this year.<\/p>\n

Tavakoli expressed hope that energy-operator companies participating under the agreement would use this platform to reduce consumption in non-productive sectors and redirect energy supplies to productive industries.<\/p>\n

He said provincial gas companies and the NIGC headquarters are prepared to carry out the provisions of the memorandum. Ensuring stable production at industrial units, including petrochemical plants, and NIGC\u2019s continued commitment to supplying gas to facilities with certified efficiency performance, remain key objectives of both the memorandum and the Oil Ministry\u2019s strategy, he added. Raising public awareness and implementing optimization projects with maximum stakeholder participation, he said, are essential to promoting responsible energy use in the industrial sector.<\/p>\n

NPC and NIGC had previously signed a memorandum on Dec. 18, 2024, focused on implementing the 10 percent gas-consumption reduction campaign, which helped boost public awareness and encourage improved consumption behavior among participants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
