RoydadNaft – <\/a><\/span>\u00a0Iran\u2019s oil minister announced that the country has been elected chair of the Executive Board of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and that Tehran\u2019s proposal to upgrade the forum into the \u201cOrganization of Gas Exporting Countries\u201d was well received by member states.<\/p>\n

Mohsen Paknejad made the remarks Thursday on the sidelines of the 27th GECF Ministerial Meeting in Doha, Qatar.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis meeting, which represents the highest decision-making level among gas-exporting countries, discussed key issues such as administrative and structural matters and next year\u2019s budget,\u201d Paknejad said. \u201cAmong Iran\u2019s main achievements was being elected as chair of the Executive Board of the GECF.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that Iran also proposed transforming the GECF into an organization, a move aimed at enhancing its effectiveness and global influence among gas-producing and exporting nations. \u201cBoth initiatives were well received, and we have already reached a positive conclusion,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Referring to the election of a new GECF secretary-general, Paknejad noted that the matter was also discussed. \u201cThe current term of the secretary-general has ended, and ministers agreed that the next secretary-general should be from a country that has not previously held the position,\u201d he said, adding that a final decision has yet to be made.<\/p>\n

Focus on Investment in Iran\u2019s Oil and Gas Sector<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking about his bilateral meetings in Qatar, Paknejad said he held talks with several participating ministers on Wednesday. \u201cWe had productive discussions on various issues of mutual interest,\u201d he said. \u201cIn particular, we invited them to invest in Iran\u2019s oil and gas industry. It was agreed that specialized working groups will hold further sessions to discuss these matters in more detail.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
