RoydadNaft – <\/a><\/span>\u00a0Oil production from the Nowruz field has increased by 1,500 barrels per day following the completion of a complex offshore power cable operation, according to an Iranian offshore oil company official.<\/p>\n

Amir Baghlani, head of planning and coordination for port, marine and transportation operations at the Iranian Offshore Oil Co., said the 2-kilometer cable was laid between the field and wellhead platforms to supply them with electricity.<\/p>\n

Baghlani emphasized the sensitivity of the operation, which typically requires a vessel with a dynamic positioning system that uses satellite signals to maintain its exact course. However, he stated that sanctions prevented a direct satellite link.<\/p>\n

To solve this, domestic knowledge-based companies designed a portable signal receiver to get DGPS signals from the satellite. This device was connected to the vessel’s DP console, allowing the cable to be laid precisely along the planned route without deviation.<\/p>\n

The operation was essential to power subsea pumps for several wells and boost production. Baghlani noted that such operations are highly challenging, requiring specialized, DP-equipped cable-laying vessels, which are scarce and expensive in Iran.<\/p>\n

Faced with the unavailability of such a ship, modifications were made to a standard vessel, including installing a cable pulley and the portable signaling equipment. The operation began after receiving technical approvals.<\/p>\n

The DP system helps a vessel move in a straight line with minimal error by communicating with satellites. Using a vessel without it would disrupt the project, Baghlani said. By using the domestic company’s portable technology, the operation was completed successfully with minimal error.<\/p>\n

Power and instrument cables between platforms are often damaged by ship anchors or fishing nets, leading to power outages and lost production. This makes such cable-laying operations critical for maintaining platform power and continuous field output.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
