RoydadNaft – <\/a><\/span>\u00a0The head of the Iranian Parliament\u2019s Environmental Caucus cited old vehicles as a key factor in the country\u2019s fuel imbalance and said the caucus is reviewing the process of scrapping outdated cars and motorcycles under the Seventh Development Plan (2024-28).<\/p>\n

Somayeh Rafiei noted that, according to the Seventh Development Plan, 500,000 old vehicles must be retired annually, as they are a primary cause of fuel imbalance. She added that aging and outdated technology in motorcycles\u2014which often consume several times more fuel than newer cars\u2014is also a major contributor to air pollution.<\/p>\n

Rafiei also referenced the Automotive Industry Regulation Law, stating that the responsibility for scrapping old vehicles falls on the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade. The Environmental Caucus, she said, is monitoring compliance with legal requirements in this area.<\/p>\n

She expressed hope that collaboration between the government, Parliament and the private sector would accelerate the retirement of old vehicles and ensure the Seventh Development Plan\u2019s goals in this sector are met.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
