{"id":14244,"date":"2025-05-18T04:09:51","date_gmt":"2025-05-18T04:09:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/?p=14244"},"modified":"2025-05-18T04:09:51","modified_gmt":"2025-05-18T04:09:51","slug":"opec-report-2025-indias-oil-demand-to-surge-by-3-39-to-5-74-million-bpd-in-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/14244\/","title":{"rendered":"OPEC Report 2025: India\u2019s Oil Demand to Surge by 3.39% to 5.74 million bpd in 2025 \u200b"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\" itemprop=\"description\"><p><span class=\"pre-content-text\"><a style=\"color: #0038a8;\" href=\"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/\">RoydadNaft &#8211; <\/a><\/span>\u00a0based Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries <strong data-reader-unique-id=\"13\">(OPEC)<\/strong> released its latest <a href=\"https:\/\/momr.opec.org\/pdf-download\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" data-reader-unique-id=\"14\"><u data-reader-unique-id=\"15\">Monthly Oil Market Report<\/u><u data-reader-unique-id=\"16\"> (MOMR) for May 2025<\/u><u data-reader-unique-id=\"17\">.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0The report projected that<strong data-reader-unique-id=\"18\"> India\u2019s oil demand<\/strong> is expected to increase by <strong data-reader-unique-id=\"19\">3.39%,<\/strong>\u00a0from 5.55 million barrels per day (bpd) (in 2024) to <strong data-reader-unique-id=\"20\">5.74 million bpd (in 2025)<\/strong><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"21\">,<\/strong> driven by rising energy needs in the world\u2019s fastest growing economy. It is further projected to increase by 4.28% i.e. to 5.99 million bpd (in 2026).<\/p>\n<ul data-reader-unique-id=\"22\">\n<li data-reader-unique-id=\"23\">This growth estimate of India is expected to outpace China\u2019s projected 1.5% and 1.25% increase in 2025 and 2026, respectively.<\/li>\n<li data-reader-unique-id=\"24\">India ranked third in terms of absolute oil consumption globally after the United States of America <strong data-reader-unique-id=\"25\">(USA)<\/strong>\u00a0and China.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"26\"><span data-amp-original-style=\"color: #339966;\" data-reader-unique-id=\"27\"><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"28\">Key Findings:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"29\"><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"30\">i.<\/strong>The\u00a0report cited that the United States of America <strong data-reader-unique-id=\"31\">(USA)<\/strong> will continue to be the <strong data-reader-unique-id=\"32\">world\u2019s top oil consumer<\/strong>, with a projected demand of <strong data-reader-unique-id=\"33\">20.5 million bpd<\/strong> (in 2025). However, the USA is likely to witness marginal growth of 0.09% (in 2025) and 0.6% (2026).<\/p>\n<ul data-reader-unique-id=\"34\">\n<li data-reader-unique-id=\"35\">It is followed by China, with projected oil demand of 16.90 million bpd (in 2025) and 17.12 million bpd (in 2026) and India, ranked at 2nd and 3rd position in terms of absolute oil consumption globally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"36\"><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"37\">ii.<\/strong>As per the report, global oil demand will increase by <strong data-reader-unique-id=\"38\">1.3 million bpd<\/strong> both in 2025 and 2026, unchanged from OPEC\u2019s previous projections.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"39\"><span data-amp-original-style=\"color: #339966;\" data-reader-unique-id=\"40\"><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"41\">India-Specific:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"42\"><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"43\">i.<\/strong>The report highlighted that India\u2019s economy continued to expand at the starting of 2025. It projected that India will continue to maintain robust economic growth for the remaining part of the year, supported by ongoing consumer spending, investment and government support for key sectors.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"44\"><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"45\">ii.<\/strong>As per the report,<strong data-reader-unique-id=\"46\"> Diesel <\/strong>will continue to be the primary driver of oil demand growth in India, driven by extensive road infrastructure projects boosting bitumen consumption.<\/p>\n<ul data-reader-unique-id=\"47\">\n<li data-reader-unique-id=\"48\">Also, robust transport fuel demand, manufacturing growth and petrochemical feedstock requirements will further boost overall oil demand growth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"49\"><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"50\">iii.<\/strong>In 2025, overall oil demand growth in India is projected to grow by <strong data-reader-unique-id=\"51\">188,000 bpd on yearly basis<\/strong> i.e. to an average of 5.7 million bpd.<\/p>\n<ul data-reader-unique-id=\"52\">\n<li data-reader-unique-id=\"53\">In 2026, oil demand in India is expected to increase by 246,000 bpd to an average of 6.0 million bpd , driven by resilient economic activity and government backing key sectors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"54\"><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"55\">iv<\/strong><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"56\">.<\/strong>The report noted that recent USA tariffs have the potential to dampen India\u2019s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but, fiscal and monetary stimulus measures are expected to mitigate some of these effects.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"57\"><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"58\">v<\/strong><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"59\">.<\/strong>As per the report, India currently depends on imports for over<strong data-reader-unique-id=\"60\"> 85% <\/strong>of its crude requirements, with imports hitting a record of<strong data-reader-unique-id=\"61\">\u00a0<\/strong><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"62\">5.4 million bpd<\/strong> in March 2025, marking an increase of over 5% month-on-month (m-o-m).<\/p>\n<ul data-reader-unique-id=\"63\">\n<li data-reader-unique-id=\"64\">Also, product imports increased by 2% m-o-m, driven by increased inflows of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).<\/li>\n<li data-reader-unique-id=\"65\">While, product exports declined by almost 3%m-o-m, mainly due to decreased gasoline and naphtha exports, partially offset by higher diesel and fuel oil outflows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"66\"><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"67\">v<\/strong><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"68\">i<\/strong><strong data-reader-unique-id=\"69\">.<\/strong>The report mentioned about top 3 countries which are the <strong data-reader-unique-id=\"70\">highest source of India\u2019s total crude imports <\/strong>(as per the Kpler data): <strong data-reader-unique-id=\"71\">Russia <\/strong>accounted 36% of India\u2019s total crude imports in March 2025 compared to 31% (in February 2025);
