{"id":13663,"date":"2025-03-21T07:45:48","date_gmt":"2025-03-21T07:45:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/?p=13663"},"modified":"2025-03-21T07:45:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T07:45:48","slug":"india-expands-strategic-petroleum-reserves-boosts-clean-energy-initiatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/13663\/","title":{"rendered":"India Expands Strategic Petroleum Reserves &#038; Boosts Clean Energy Initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\" itemprop=\"description\"><p><span class=\"pre-content-text\"><a style=\"color: #0038a8;\" href=\"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/\">RoydadNaft &#8211; <\/a><\/span>\u00a0The Government of India, through Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserve Limited (ISPRL), has established Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) facilities with a total capacity of <strong data-start=\"283\" data-end=\"319\" data-reader-unique-id=\"66\">5.33 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT)<\/strong> at three locations:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"342\" data-end=\"427\" data-reader-unique-id=\"67\">\n<li data-start=\"342\" data-end=\"375\" data-reader-unique-id=\"68\"><strong data-start=\"344\" data-end=\"362\" data-reader-unique-id=\"69\">Vishakhapatnam<\/strong> (1.33 MMT)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"376\" data-end=\"403\" data-reader-unique-id=\"70\"><strong data-start=\"378\" data-end=\"391\" data-reader-unique-id=\"71\">Mangaluru<\/strong> (1.5 MMT)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"404\" data-end=\"427\" data-reader-unique-id=\"72\"><strong data-start=\"406\" data-end=\"415\" data-reader-unique-id=\"73\">Padur<\/strong> (2.5 MMT)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"429\" data-end=\"626\" data-reader-unique-id=\"74\">To further enhance crude oil storage, the government approved two additional <strong data-start=\"506\" data-end=\"552\" data-reader-unique-id=\"75\">commercial-cum-strategic petroleum reserve<\/strong> facilities in <strong data-start=\"567\" data-end=\"580\" data-reader-unique-id=\"76\">July 2021<\/strong>, adding a total of <strong data-start=\"600\" data-end=\"611\" data-reader-unique-id=\"77\">6.5 MMT<\/strong> capacity at:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"627\" data-end=\"696\" data-reader-unique-id=\"78\">\n<li data-start=\"627\" data-end=\"661\" data-reader-unique-id=\"79\"><strong data-start=\"629\" data-end=\"651\" data-reader-unique-id=\"80\">Chandikhol, Odisha<\/strong> (4 MMT)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"662\" data-end=\"696\" data-reader-unique-id=\"81\"><strong data-start=\"664\" data-end=\"684\" data-reader-unique-id=\"82\">Padur, Karnataka<\/strong> (2.5 MMT)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"698\" data-end=\"946\" data-reader-unique-id=\"83\">These projects are being developed under a <strong data-start=\"741\" data-end=\"783\" data-reader-unique-id=\"84\">Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model<\/strong>. The government and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) regularly assess the feasibility of expanding storage capacities, with new sites under continuous evaluation.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"948\" data-end=\"990\" data-reader-unique-id=\"85\"><strong data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"988\" data-reader-unique-id=\"86\">Diversification of Crude Imports<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"991\" data-end=\"1522\" data-reader-unique-id=\"87\">To <strong data-start=\"994\" data-end=\"1034\" data-reader-unique-id=\"88\">reduce dependency on a single region<\/strong> for crude supply, Indian Oil Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have diversified their import basket by sourcing oil from multiple regions, including the <strong data-start=\"1188\" data-end=\"1245\" data-reader-unique-id=\"89\">Middle East, Africa, North America, and South America<\/strong>. Additionally, India has expanded its <strong data-start=\"1284\" data-end=\"1299\" data-reader-unique-id=\"90\">LNG imports<\/strong> by adding <strong data-start=\"1310\" data-end=\"1345\" data-reader-unique-id=\"91\">Australia, the USA, and the UAE<\/strong> as sourcing destinations. The country has also entered into <strong data-start=\"1406\" data-end=\"1446\" data-reader-unique-id=\"92\">long-term LNG procurement agreements<\/strong> to ensure uninterrupted supply and protection against price fluctuations.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1524\" data-end=\"1566\" data-reader-unique-id=\"93\"><strong data-start=\"1528\" data-end=\"1564\" data-reader-unique-id=\"94\">Government Push for Clean Energy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1567\" data-end=\"2146\" data-reader-unique-id=\"95\">As part of its strategy to <strong data-start=\"1594\" data-end=\"1629\" data-reader-unique-id=\"96\">reduce reliance on fossil fuels<\/strong>, the government has implemented various initiatives, including:<br data-start=\"1693\" data-end=\"1696\" data-reader-unique-id=\"97\" \/><strong data-start=\"1698\" data-end=\"1738\" data-reader-unique-id=\"98\">Transitioning to a gas-based economy<\/strong>by promoting natural gas as fuel and feedstock.<br data-start=\"1786\" data-end=\"1789\" data-reader-unique-id=\"99\" \/><strong data-start=\"1791\" data-end=\"1838\" data-reader-unique-id=\"100\">Encouraging renewable and alternative fuels<\/strong> such as <strong data-start=\"1847\" data-end=\"1960\" data-reader-unique-id=\"101\">ethanol, second-generation ethanol, compressed biogas, biodiesel, green hydrogen, and electric vehicles (EVs)<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"1961\" data-end=\"1964\" data-reader-unique-id=\"102\" \/><strong data-start=\"1966\" data-end=\"1999\" data-reader-unique-id=\"103\">Enhancing refinery efficiency<\/strong> through process improvements and energy conservation.<br data-start=\"2053\" data-end=\"2056\" data-reader-unique-id=\"104\" \/><strong data-start=\"2058\" data-end=\"2112\" data-reader-unique-id=\"105\">Increasing domestic oil and natural gas production<\/strong> through various policy reforms.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2148\" data-end=\"2193\" data-reader-unique-id=\"106\"><strong data-start=\"2152\" data-end=\"2191\" data-reader-unique-id=\"107\">Promoting Biofuels and Green Energy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2194\" data-end=\"2603\" data-reader-unique-id=\"108\">To boost the use of <strong data-start=\"2214\" data-end=\"2241\" data-reader-unique-id=\"109\">Compressed Biogas (CBG)<\/strong> as a transportation fuel, the government launched the <strong data-start=\"2296\" data-end=\"2365\" data-reader-unique-id=\"110\">Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT)<\/strong> initiative.
