RoydadNaft – <\/a><\/span>\u00a0The managing director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) announced plans to create a specialized artificial intelligence (AI) department during the closing ceremony of the Shahid Tondgouyan Digital Oil and Gas Fields Competition on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Hamid Bovard stated that neglecting the production of technology is irreparable, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing innovation despite sanctions and pressures.<\/p>\n

“We have achieved a strong regional standing in AI and must intensify our efforts,” he said.<\/p>\n

He further revealed plans to establish a specialized AI unit within the Research and Technology Directorate.<\/p>\n

Bovard noted that integrating AI into areas such as reservoir studies, seismic data interpretation in exploration, and drilling parameter control could enhance production, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.<\/p>\n

Addressing rumors about reduced oil and gas production circulating on social media, the deputy oil minister said, “Contrary to these claims, we are ahead of schedule in gas production and have achieved a 7\u201310% increase in a short time.”<\/p>\n

Plan to digitize 15 oil, gas fields<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mahdia Motahari, head of the Research and Technology Directorate at NIOC, emphasized the importance of AI in achieving the country’s goals, stating, “According to the Supreme Leader\u2019s guidance, we must rank among the top 10 countries in AI. The NIOC aims to lead in this field.”<\/p>\n

Motahari announced plans to digitize 15 oil and gas fields and draft an AI-based governance framework for the NIOC.<\/p>\n

Additionally, over 100 activities within the company\u2019s subsidiaries are set to utilize AI. Future initiatives include implementing AI-driven business intelligence and developing a smart monitoring center.<\/p>\n

Submission of 131 proposals for digitalization initiative<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mohammad Chahardouli, president of the Petroleum University of Technology, reported that 131 proposals were submitted for the second Shahid Tondgouyan Digitalization of Oil and Gas Fields Competition.<\/p>\n

“Thirty judges reviewed these submissions, and 52 academic groups and knowledge-based companies were selected for interviews and recognition in four categories,” he said.<\/p>\n

Chahardouli highlighted the need for infrastructure investment to position Iran among the top 10 countries in AI.<\/p>\n

He noted that from 2013 to 2023, Saudi Arabia invested $20 billion and Turkey $200 million in AI, while Iran’s investment stood at only $10 million, calling for greater attention to this area.<\/p>\n

The ceremony concluded with awards for outstanding academic and new technology-based firm (NTBF) projects.<\/p>\n

These projects utilized technologies such as AI, the Internet of Things (IoT), augmented reality, and cloud computing.<\/p>\n

By leveraging these advancements, operators can collect and analyze data rapidly, enabling optimized responses and precise decision-making in managing oil and gas fields.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
