RoydadNaft – <\/a><\/span>\u00a0The caretaker of Iran\u2019s National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said the country\u2019s petrochemical production capacity is going to reach 131 million tons by the end of the country\u2019s seventh National Development Plan (early 2027).<\/p>\n

Hassan Abbaszadeh put the country\u2019s current petrochemical production capacity at about 100 million tons, noting that currently 80 percent of the country\u2019s nominal production capacity is active, IRNA reported.<\/p>\n

Back in May, Abbaszadeh, who was previously NPC’s director of planning and development, said 68 projects with a total investment of $35 billion and a capacity of 50 million tons will be implemented during the Seventh National Development Plan.<\/p>\n

As announced by the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), the value of Iran\u2019s export of petrochemical products increased by 12.8 percent during the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20-August 21), as compared to the same period of time in the past year.<\/p>\n

Mohammad Rezvanifar said that the country exported 24.5 million tons of petrochemicals worth $9.8 billion in the five-month period, indicating also 12.5 percent growth in terms of weight, year on year.<\/p>\n

The former head of National Petrochemical Company has said the country\u2019s petrochemical output is estimated to reach 80 million tons in the current Iranian calendar year (ends in late March 2025).<\/p>\n

Noting that one of the main objectives of the Oil Ministry in the current year has been the sustained supply of feed to petrochemical complexes, Morteza Shahmirzaei put the country\u2019s petrochemical exports in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended on March 19) at 30 million tons.<\/p>\n

He announced last month that the NPC is going to launch 15 new petrochemical projects by the end of the current Iranian calendar year.<\/p>\n

Shahmirzaei made the remarks on the sidelines of the 18th International Exhibition of Plastic, Rubber, Machinery, and Equipment (IRAN PLAST 2024), adding that five major petrochemical projects have gone operational since the beginning of the current year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe implementation of petrochemical projects in Makran region has accelerated and it is hoped that one of them will come online this year,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n

He went on to say that Iran\u2019s petrochemical sector will reach self-sufficiency regarding the items and equipment needed in the industry within the next five years.<\/p>\n

According to the official, the capacity of Iran\u2019s petrochemical industry which currently stands at 96 million tons will surpass 100 million tons when the projects come on stream.<\/p>\n

Earlier in May, Ahmad Mahdavi Abhari, the director general of the Association of Petrochemical Industry Corporation (APIC), said Iran\u2019s petrochemical output has increased by 15 million tons over the past two years.<\/p>\n

Abhari put the country\u2019s current petrochemical output at 82 million tons.<\/p>\n

He said Iran\u2019s petrochemical output stood at 67 million tons before late President Raisi took office in August 2021.<\/p>\n

The official also noted that the Iranian petrochemical industry has created as many as 143,000 direct jobs in the mentioned period.<\/p>\n

He put the current growth of Iran\u2019s petrochemical industry at 40.6 percent up from 27.5 percent in the country\u2019s third five-year development plan.<\/p>\n

Iran’s petrochemical industry accounts for 28 percent of the region’s petrochemical capacity and 2.7 percent of the world’s petrochemical capacity, he announced.<\/p>\n

The petrochemical industry plays a crucial role in Iran\u2019s non-oil economy, as petrochemical export is the second-largest source of revenue for the country after crude oil. Petrochemical exports already constitute nearly 33 percent of the country\u2019s non-oil exports.<\/p>\n

According to Shahmirzaei, the company plans to increase its annual petrochemical production capacity to 200 million tons over the next 10 years.<\/p>\n
